Singapore’s Learning Expedition and IT Immersion Programme

Singapore's government is pouring millions of dollars into creating an education hub in Asia, hoping to transform both its economy and identity. In conjunction with this aim, Singapore Cable Car (SCC), Underwater World Singapore (UWS) and Informatics Group Singapore (IGS) will collaborate and offer a unique and innovative education programme that encompasses both experiential and sedentary learning approach, targeted at three different levels of foreign students.

This joint collaboration will be the first for the three parties involved with the mission to create a fun, novel and out-of-the-box learning experiences that inspire, inform and stimulate various faculties of understanding. “We’re excited by this collaboration’s growth potential, and by the incredible learning experience offered in these programme," Susan Teh, General Manager of SCC stated.

“With our unique product, venue and hands-on programmes, we believe we can inject new interest and excitement into the students’ learning process and provide a totally new dimension to education”, Mr Kwek Meng Tiam, Operations Director of UWS remarked.

The level 1 programme is suitable for children above 5 years of age. From the 5-day excursion that covers educational tours to the Jurong Port, Botanic Gardens, Singapore River, Clarke Quay and Sentosa, provided by SCC. Students will be able to discover the secret of the Singapore port's success, get better acquainted with Singapore’s history, tropical nature as well as conservation and ecological understanding. The syllabus also covers the “Special Conservation Talk and Guide to the Oceanarium” by UWS with the aim to help students better appreciate and understand the importance of marine life conservation. The “Exclusive Sea Explorer Workshop” is a fun and exciting workshop that is specially tailored to capture the imagination of young children and to inculcate in them a love of the oceans. IGS on the other hand will allow students their first touch of computers, with the aim of developing interests on computer as well as encouraging and nurturing creativity.

For 8 -12 year olds, the level 2 programme offers a more comprehensive curriculum that focuses on elevating and expanding the thinking process of the students. SCC is providing more targeted tours such as cultural and heritage tour to Little India, Kampong Glam and Chinatown and Farm and Cruise tours to neighbouring islands. Students will be able to relive and discover the rich & vibrant heritage of the early settlers who lived through the trials & tribulations as well as explore our state-of-the-art farming technology. The “Marine Life Workshop” by UWS is a unique and creative workshop that teaches you all that you want to know about marine animals, through fun hands-on activities! The “Specimens Workshop and Behind-the-Scenes at Dolphin Lagoon” is an eye-opening workshop where you will get a rare chance to see real specimens of marine animals. You will also get a rare opportunity to experience what it is like behind-the-scenes at Dolphin Lagoon. Tailored for students who already have some knowledge about computers, IGS will provide IT programme that will equip them with IT applications and Internet knowledge.

The level 3 programme targets the more mature students with a well-planned itinerary focusing on more sophisticated and complex issues and understanding. The expedition covers racial harmony tours and commercialized & industrialization tours by SCC. Students will be able to understand and appreciate the Singapore’s unique way of living and its vibrant economy. Marine tours, talks and workshops with conservation and ecological theme by UWS such as “Living-in-the-Oceans Sleepover” is an unforgettable and exciting one night sleepover right inside our tunnel allows one to immerse in the ocean’s bounty and gain enormous knowledge on marine life. You will also get to meet our lovely pink dolphins! As for the IT programme, the “Building Knowledge” level is ideal for students who have already acquired basic IT skills. IGS will provide a syllabus that covers more in-depth skills on applications of MS PowerPoint, Word Processing and Multimedia skills.

The Singapore’s Learning Expedition & IT immersion Programme is available to all interested foreign students. Study Guides are provided to assist in their education experience assisting the students in evaluating post performance activities and help them to incorporate the messages from their curriculums. As part of the tour, students will also take part in post-performance discussions with the guides and/or lecturers.

The cost for each programme package depending on the level and accommodation needs, ranges from S$1,000.00 to S$1,800.00. Reservations for the programme are currently being taken and early booking is recommended, as seats are limited. Please note that all programme packages includes air-conditioned coach transfer, meals, course fees and educational tours.
